The Aswan Dam was once the largest dam in the world. The original dam, completed in 1902, was unable to properly control the flow of the mighty river and had no reservoir. This dam eventually became known as the Old Aswan Dam after the second dam was built. The Egyptian president built a second dam that had a reservoir, and was able to control the flow multiple times better than the Old Aswan Dam. The new dam had a reservoir capacity of over 6 trillion cubic feet.
